Classic Porsche 911 – One Car to Do It All

What if you only owned one car for the rest of your life? What would it be? Could it cope with all the different tasks you want to do with it? How can you make a car perform just as well on track days, shopping run and long drives?

Jack Olsen would pick the Porsche 911, from a combination of eras. 1972 lightweight body, 1995 993 engine, 1977 transaxle, 1986 turbo brakes. Not only has he built his ideal car which he will develop perpetually, he has also built the perfect garage/workshop to house his 1972 Porsche 911 RSR Frankenstein. It even houses a hydraulic lift table to make working on the underside of the car simple and easy.

Definition of Car Culture

It’s hard to explain in words the attachment that some people have toward their cars, how they become the centre of their lives and determine their friendships and experiences. Here is a pair of videos that demonstrate car culture in Thailand.

The next chapter – McLaren P1 test on track

It hasn’t been long since the Paris Motorshow, when the first concept McLaren P1 was unveiled to the public. Just over 3 months have passed and McLaren are keeping the interest up by teasing us with a short video showing the XP2 prototype testing at the Nurburgring.  RevivalSportsCars has unique pictures of the car during recent testing.

Thinly disguised under a camouflage design that pays homage to international racing circuits that McLaren have competed at over the last 50 years, the lines from the Paris concept are unaltered.

We are big fans of the flames on overun. The engine sound resonating from the car has real hints of racecar urgency and ferociousness.

McLaren looks like they are playing a clever game of keeping up the excitement against the Ferrari F70 and Porsche 918 rivals which are also in development.

Nissan 370Z Nismo UK version announced

Following on from the US and Japan, the UK and Europe finally get access to a Nismo tuned version of the 370Z. The Nismo version features a number of significant changes that together bring a more involving and visually striking car.

The car has been dramatically re sculpted both front and rear, the lower/wider front splitter in particular significantly adds to the aerodynamic forces, bringing GTR levels of downforce to the 370Z.

Combined with revised suspension (-10mm/15% stiffer vs standard 370Z), 19 inch Nismo/Rays forged wheels (that accomodate wider 285 section tyres at the rear), uprated engine performance (339bhp and 273lb ft), improvements to the braking system (GTR fluid and solid piping), and a sports tuned exhaust, there will be a noticeable upgrade to the standard cars performance and handling.

The US Nismo version was reported to transform the driving experience back to the more neutral and direct 350Z. The Nismo 370Z will only be available with a manual gearbox.

Whilst the styling may not be to everyone’s taste, it is sure to be a popular addition to the 370Z range. Price to be confirmed by Nissan UK, should be available in June/July 2013.

The Military Nissan Silvia S14

“No-one’s really built a car like this.” claims the owner of The Military S14 in the video below – and we agree. Its  originality and detail are breathtaking.

Sataomi Nakawatase has a very particular style. He loves military iconography and the feel of old factories and has put that into his work. His Nissan Silvia has been customised and looks like a proper road tank.

This beast draws a lot of attention wherever it goes but can still tear up the track and drift with the best of them.

Sataomi describes the car as robot-like. It features rocket-bunny aero parts, a Greddy turbo charger, suspension by Stance Japan and Mickey Thompson wheels.

The Singer 911 – manufacturing the ultimate

The Singer Vehicle Design concept is quite simple, what would it take to build the ultimate air cooled Porsche 911? Putting this into reality is far from simple. Chris Harris has the pleasure of getting under the skin of Singer Vehicle Design at their base in Los Angeles, and taking one of their masterpieces out on the road and track.

Taking a 964 chassis as a base, then totally stripping the chassis back to bare metal and rebuilding it as a brand new car to their own meticulous spec, resulting in a true work of art.

Aston Martin Centenary Edition Models

Aston Martin is marking the start of its 100th birthday with the unveiling of a bespoke new Centenary Edition Vanquish. The limited edition Vanquish will be just one of 100 examples, sold alongside 100 of each of the other model lines: V8 Vantage, DB9 and Rapide.

The cars will feature unique graduated paint finish, solid sterling silver Aston Martin wing badges with tailored ‘trans flux’ enamel inlay and a special Aston Martin hallmark, the exterior represents an exclusive new celebration of the company’s 100-year history.

The process of creating the unique Centenary Edition paint finish, adds 18 hours to the paint process, which already takes more than 50 hours. The graduated finish is built by adding special ‘tinters’ to create the darker inner colour. This custom-made mixture is then applied to each panel by hand, using a special mini-jet spray gun. Aston Martin Design Director Marek Reichman explained: “The team has looked closely at the individual contour lines of each of the cars to determine not only the right colours and shades, but also to create a template by which the paint changes from dark to light and where the graduated effect sits.”

A Centenary Edition Aston Martin is identified inside by its exclusive and luxurious treatment. Deep Soft black leather – previously featuring only in the One-77 hypercar – with contrasting silver stitching, a special silver thread embroidery of the Aston Martin wings in the head restraints and solid sterling silver sill plaques individually numbered with an Aston Martin hallmark are among the features unique to the car.

Each Centenary Edition model will also be supplied with a unique presentation box containing a number of exclusive gifts to mark the first 100 years of the company. These include two glass keys, two bespoke key pouches made from leather matching the car’s interior trim, solid silver cufflinks featuring the Aston Martin script, solid silver Rollerball pen and high quality Bang & Olufsen headphones. The gift box will also include a silver polishing cloth to help owners ensure the silver centenary wings badges and sill plaques on their car keep their lustre.

Radical RXC supercar launch at Autosport 2013

Autosport 2013 was the venue chosen by Radical Sportscars to launch their ground breaking road legal supercar. The RXC is a bold move by the british car manufacturer, radically different from their more track biased SR series cars (SR1, SR3, SR8) because it features a fully enclosed cockpit, making it an extreme track car you can genuinely drive to the circuit.

The powerplant is a 380bhp V6 normally aspirated engine supplied by Ford and features throttle bodies, which should make an extremely distinct sound. Carbon Fibre features are all over the car, mirrors, side pods and vents all utilise the lightweight material. The ride height is very low on the show car, a feature that could hinder its road going ability. The cockpit is quite snug, as shown by one of the pictures below with someone in the drivers seat. However this is an ideal to hold you in place under the extreme forces that the car is able to create round a circuit. An interesting feature that will add to the drama of this car is a vent that passes from the rear engine bay directly into the enclosed cockpit, presumably to feed the induction noise from the individual throttle bodies into the drivers ear. Priced at £100k, with a 10% discount for the first 10 ordered at the Autosport International Show.

Take a look at the set of detailed photos of the car and a time lapse film produced by revivalsportscars below.

Radical Sportscars is the largest manufacturer of racing and track day cars. The RXC was developed with the help of race ace Andy Wallace.

Keep Drifting Fun!

Toyota Supra mid drift

We came across a refreshing video via speedhunters that tries to document the US Drifting scene. Keep Drifting Fun follows a group of hardcore drifting nuts at drift events all over the US and Mexico. It really is great to see people having unrestricted fun in cars, and the video makes the scene look extremely appealing because of its total lack of seriousness. The true spirit of driving is alive and kicking in this video.

Keep Drifting Fun – In 2010 we crisscrossed the USA interviewing drivers and covering grassroots drifting events. We wanted to know why people choose to drift, how they got into the sport, and why the love it. The answer is simple, its fun. In fact, its the most fun you can have with a car. Once you do it, you’re hooked and for children of the action sports era – its easy to understand being subjective and judged. In this short form documentary, we visit some of the most vibrant and passionate drifting communities in the US. We talk with up and coming amateur drivers and pro drifters about the sport and why Keep Drifting Fun is more than just a motto – it has changed their lives.
