Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4 and its 18 month waiting list

The Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4 is one of the biggest supercar success stories of 2012. There is currently a worldwide 18 month waiting list, with some owners paying £45,000 over list price to beat the wait. Second hand Aventadors’ are trading above new prices because production can’t meet the worldwide demand. The standard UK list price is £247,667, but cars advertised at dealers are priced at £285,000 or more. Lamborghini increased annual production to 600 Aventadors after initial production started in 2011. During 2012 Lamborghini sold 922 Aventadors worldwide.

The Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4 is the first total rewrite of the flagship V12 Lamborghini since the 1966 Miura. It features an all new V12 engine, carbon fibre monocoque chassis and total rethink of all suspension/transmission components. The Aventador V12 is only the second design produced by Lamborghini since the 3.5 litre V12 that featured in the 1966 Muira and evolved into the V12 that featured in the Countach, Diablo and Murceilago.

Lexus LFA – supercar production ends

The last Lexus LFA was sold this month, after a production run of 500. Ground breaking in a number of ways, it had a unique V10 engine and incorporated advanced material technology in both its chassis and body construction. Carbon Fibre Reinforced Polymer was used throughout. Lexus wanted to build the best supercar in the world, and it has all the key ingredients. High revving bespoke engine, new technology, unique styling and a phenomenal soundtrack all made this car truly spectacular.

However the Lexus brand is new to this market, so it has taken time for the market to recognise the importance of this car. What’s clear is the car will become a collectors piece, very few ever come to market and values have remained strong at close to the original factory price worldwide, despite being the highest priced Japanese production car ever.

To understand how special this car is, watch a few of these videos and all will become clear.

In this video Achim goes for a drive around the streets of Berlin in his stripped down 911 while he shares his thoughts on minimalism in design and construction, and how he feels about personal design projects. Build your own BMW M3 CSL

Values of the BMW M3 CSL remain very strong, around £30k for low mileage example in Silver Grey metallic paint. There is the possibility for a petrolhead to buy a decent standard E46 M3 and enhance it to perform and look like a CSL for a lot less money.

What adds to the attraction is you will have the choice to start your build based on a manual gearbox M3, rather than the SMG transmission that was fitted to all 1,400 CSLs.

For more information read my article.

Calvin Harris has superb taste in cars

Whether you like Calvin Harris’ music or not, you have to admit that the cars that are chosen for his latest music video “We’ll Be Coming Back” featuring Example are all time greats. The cars are a black 1979 Ferrari 512BB (Berlinetta Boxer) and a red 1973 Porsche 911 T. The video was originally supposed to feature a silver Porsche 911 from the same year but Example broke the gearbox during production. The classic sports cars in the video feature heavily throughout and are filmed in various chase sequences. The video is directed by Saman Keshavarz.

Ultimate Touring Cars – Deutsche Tourenwagen Meisterschaft

20 years ago, Deutsche Tourenwagen Meisterschaft was the most exciting European touring car championship. The cars were fast and the racing was extremely close. I have been transfixed to DTM footage from the “golden age” of touring cars. Here is a great video that shows some of the best moments of the race series.

GoPro Hero3: Black Edition – bringing 4k video to trackdays

RevivalSportsCars doesn’t normally review electronics or cameras. However an exception to this rule is when a device will enhance enjoyment of cars and motorsport. The GoPro Hero3 is one such device. Boasting HD beating 4k video – cinematic standard filming is now an affordable possibility for trackday enthusiasts and adventure junkies.

The Hero3 can record 4K at 3840×2160 or 4K Cinema at 4096×2160 resolution giving pristine highres images. For a slightly higher frame rate, 2.7K can be recorded at 30fps which gives better than Full HD videos. The camera will also record in 1080p, 1440p, 960p, 720p and WVGA enabling you to tailor your video to whatever resolution you require.

Another big feature is the digital image quality, stills can be taken at 12-Megapixels, an improvement on the 11-Megapixel on its predecessor. The Hero3 Black Edition comes with a WiFi remote that can control up to 50 cameras (!) at once with a 600 foot range and is also waterproof to 10 feet depth. The camera is 30% lighter and 25% smaller than the Hero2 and boasts a processor that is twice as fast, allowing for the huge leap forward in video recording performance.

We can’t wait to see the next Ken Block Gymkhana video produced with the GoPro Hero 3: Black Edition.

When outrageous was possible – Lamborghini Countach

The Lamborghini Countach, designed in 1971 was the poster car of the 80’s, adourning most kids’ bedroom walls. Many dreamed of owning one. Petrolicious has released a short video that showcases a Countach and its owner, who believes that we will never see another car like it. The car was pure design, created before restrictive regulation.
