A lot has been said about the previous generation M Power BMW M3 E46. Critically acclaimed, it was the obvious choice for a petrolhead that wanted 4 seats and very little compromise in performance and handling. The Chevrolet Corvette C06 ZR1 is an immense car, american muscle with intelligence. Headline figures are 638bhp, 604lbf-ft torque, 0-60mph in 3.3s, 205mph top speed and a supercharged 6.2L V8. During 2008 it gained the Nurburgring production car lap record at 7 minutes 26.4 seconds. read more
Just a handful of Ferrari F40 LM’s (also known as the Competizione) were produced, making it by far the fastest and rarest F40 derivative. The F40 Le Mans edition featured many upgrades that transformed it into a road legal race car. Performance of this car was staggering, 0-60mph in around 3.1 seconds, and a top speed of 229mph. read more
A car we’ve been watching in the classifieds is the Mercedes-Benz SLK 55 AMG produced between 2005-2008 (followed by revised version). Car and Driver timed one of these at 4.3 seconds to 60mph, and a 1/4 mile in 12.7 seconds! The folding metal roof allows both cocooned Coupe/GT driving as well as summer open topped cruising. read more
This project car is a beautiful original black Golf GTI 8 valve (“8v”). I sought out an 8v GTI because despite a lower total power output the 8v has more torque low down in the rev range when compared to a 16v. This makes the driving experience smoother and less manic. Additionally, the relative simplicity of the 8v engine versus the 16v translates into lower running costs and greater reliability. read more
