Ferrari Enzo F60 – an F1 derived supercar just like the McLaren P1

Following on from the news that McLaren are looking to incorporate the latest Formula 1 technology into their P1 roadcar, its worth remembering they are not the first to develop a road car that builds on the features designed for Formula 1 racecars.

Built in 2002, using Formula One technology such as a carbonfibre body, carbon disc brakes and an F1-style electrohydraulic shift transmission, the Enzo also employed technologies not permitted in F1 such as active aerodynamics. The active rear spoiler is now a standard feature on most supercars, but the Enzo was one of the first to successfully implement it into the design. After a downforce of 770kg is reached at 186 mph, the rear wing is electronically adjusted to maintain that downforce and therefore ensure ultra high speed stability.

DK Engineering are well known in the Ferrari market place for sourcing these machines. In their latest video they showcase one of the greatest Ferrari’s. The Ferrari Enzo (codenamed F60).

McLaren P1 aspires to be the greatest road and track car

More details have been revealed about the McLaren P1 concept, which was unveiled yesterday at the Paris Motorshow. McLaren aim to get a production version ready next year with deliveries of the new car to customers within 12 months of the car being displayed.

McLaren claim the downforce with the spoiler raised will be 600kg, a huge figure for a road car. A Drag Reduction System, “DRS”, will be developed for the car. DRS, will enable the rear wing to be stalled and allow the car to accelerate out of corners on a track and increase top speed.

McLaren P1 promises to raise the supercar bar

McLaren Automotive will use its first ever international motor show appearance to preview its next generation ultimate supercar – the McLaren P1 – which takes much of its technological and spiritual inspiration from the company’s Racing division. The McLaren P1 has one simple goal: to be the best driver’s car in the world on road and track.

At the Paris Motor Show, Mondial de l’Automobile 2012, the McLaren P1 is previewed as a design study. Next year a production version, which the company aims to put on sale within 12 months, will be revealed.

‘The McLaren P1 will be the result of 50 years of racing and road car heritage,’ says McLaren Automotive Executive Chairman Ron Dennis. ‘Twenty years ago we raised the supercar performance bar with the McLaren F1 and our goal with the McLaren P1 is to redefine it once again.’

‘Our aim is not necessarily to be the fastest in absolute top speed but to be the quickest and most rewarding series production road car on a circuit,’ says McLaren Automotive Managing Director Antony Sheriff. ‘It is the true test of a supercar’s all round ability and a much more important technical statement. Our goal is to make the McLaren P1 the most exciting, most capable, most technologically advanced and most dynamically accomplished supercar ever made.’

When the McLaren P1 goes into production later next year, it will sit above the 12C and 12C Spider, in terms of both price and performance.

Ferrari 250 GTO Parade at Goodwood Revival

This years Goodwood Revival was a huge success and a great event to attend. Amongst the historic racing cars, there was a large collection of Ferrari 250 GTOs, 15 of the 39 ever made between 1962 and 1964.

The 15 GTOs paraded around the track on all 3 days. The sound of the V12s all together was unforgettable. Whilst a video of the event does not do it justice, it still is an incredible sight.

BMW Art Car Collection – Shoreditch London

Sixteen BMW cars, transformed into works of art over the last 35 years are on display in a NCP car park in Shoreditch for two weeks only from 21 July to 4 August. This is the first time the car have been on show in the UK. See the RevivalSportsCars images from the exhibition. For access to a full album of images online please email admin@revivalsportscars.com

The exhibition is part of the London 2012 Festival, a spectacular 12-week nationwide celebration running until 9 September 2012, bringing together leading artists from across the world with the very best from the UK.

The collection, initiated over 35 years ago, features BMW cars transformed by some of the world’s leading artists including: Alexander Calder, Frank Stella, Roy Lichtenstein, Andy Warhol, Ernst Fuchs, Robert Rauschenberg, M.J Nelson, Ken Done, Matazo Kayama, Cesar Manrique, Jeff Koons, A.R Penck, Esher Mahlangu, Sandro Chia, Jenny Holzer and David Hockney.

The BMW Art Car Collection started when French racing driver and auctioneer Hervé Poulain invited his friend Alexander Calder to design a car that married artistic excellence to ‘an already perfect object’. The end result was a racing car that would ultimately compete in the Le Mans 24-hour race in 1975. And so the BMW Art Car was born.

Since then some of the greatest names in contemporary art have added to the collection creating a wide range of artistic interpretations. David Hockney’s 1995 Art Car paints the inside of the car on the outside, revealing everything from internal engine parts to a dog in the back. Rauschenberg incorporates photographic transfers of Ingres paintings while Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein used the canvas of the car to portray the essence of speed.

Nurburgring files for bankruptcy

The Nurburgring circuit, together with the hotels, theme parks and other associated paraphernalia has filed for bankruptcy. The announcement was made earlier today and comes as no surprise given the spiraling troubles in Germany. The government has ploughed around 500 million euros into the redevelopment of Nordschleife and nearby facilities. The new developments have proved to be unpopular with locals and tourists alike, resulting in the costs not being recouped in revenue from visitors. Whilst the Northern Loop itself remains a worldwide attraction, the hotels, theme park and restaurants did not prove popular. The European Union has prevented German officials from bailing out the project further, and because the Nurburgring can’t afford to repay the interest on outstanding bank loans it has no other option then to file for bankruptcy.

There is much speculation over the future of the Nurburgring, the most logical outcome would be for a consortium of car manufacturers to purchase the circuit (separately from the hotels etc.) so they can continue testing new models. Track drivers across the world are waiting anxiously to hear whether the Tourist Days will feature or if they will be a thing of the past.
