Alfa Romeo 4C new details and new colour!

Ahead of the Frankfurt Motor show in September 2012, Alfa Romeo have released some more details of the stunning 4C concept and pictures of the car in a colour they call Liquid Metal. Confirmed details are that the car will be made from Aluminium and Carbonfibre. The chassis will be made by Dallara, of KTM X-Bow fame. This will keep the weight to 850kg, a real Lotus rival and Cayman baiter.

Engine and transmission details remain unchanged from earlier reports, a turbocharged 1750cc 4 cylinder unit, already used in the Mito and Giulietta. This unit will be coupled to the TCT twin-clutch automatic gearbox which is also found in current cars. The major difference of the 4C is the lightweight 2 seater format and mid engined setup that should make this an enthralling car.

Alfa Romeo 4C – lightweight heaven!

As Lotus are striving to become more upmarket and produce supercars, Alfa Romeo are feverishly working to bring the exceptional 4C Concept car into production reality. The carbon, super-lightweight Alfa will tip the scales at just 850kg and be powered by a 1.8 turbo charged engine producing 232bhp. This low mass translates into Porsche 911 rivalling performance, 0-60 is sub 5 seconds (claimed 4.8s) and a top speed in excess of 160mph. The use of carbon in both the tub chassis and the body is the main factor driving the low kerb weight. And despite the liberal use of cutting edge supercar technology, Alfa Romeo are targeting a modest price of £40k plus local taxes. If the stunning concept can be delivered on time, to spec and on budget it will set the sports car market alight.

EXCLUSIVE: McLaren MP4-12C hits London’s West End!

A white McLaren MP4-12C was on Jermyn Street in London’s West End on Friday 17 June 2011. The McLaren is due to be released next month. This pre production car was being picked up at Piccadilly Circus by the lucky motoring journalist.

The cutting edge design details are beautiful, every line and feature is clearly performance orientated. On start up and idle the car emits a deep but subdued roar. The engine sounds super smooth and free revving, giving little away about the performance available on open throttle. This dual personality will make it a true everyday supercar. The driver loaded the front storage under the bonnet with a couple of weekend bags with ease. The cabin is incredibly well made and designed. It appears that the switchgear is built to last rather than look exquisite, which is the complete opposite to the Pagani Zonda. The car appears production ready, the only imperfection was a slight fogging of the front lights due to the rain. This will be fixed on the production version.

The MP4-12C will outperform a McLaren F1, 0-60mph is achieved in 3.1 seconds and 0-100mph in little over 6 seconds.
