One of the biggest tours in the european classic car calendar commenced 11 April from Paris. The Tour Auto, which celebrated it’s 20th year, commemorates the first Tour de France Automobile that took place in 1899.
The annual Tour Auto is varied and multifaceted, the trip allows teams to experience race circuits, long distance road stages and timed sprints on specially closed road stages.
The cars ranged from 1950 up to 1980. The earliest car was a beautiful 1950 Jaguar XK120. 300 cars took part ranging from original unrestored classics to full blown historic racing cars.
There were a few tagalongs too, a pair of 2011 Ferrari 599 GTO’s and a 1988 Ferrari F40. Since the rally was partly sponsored by BMW there was also a pre-release BMW 1 Series M.
The route spanned from Paris to South West France. Along the route were four historic race circuits including Le Man which hosts the annual 24 hour race.
My favourite cars in parc fermé were two 1973 Porsche 911 RS 2.7 and a 1972 BMW 3.0 CSL ex racer.
I have taken over 300 pictures at parc fermé on 11 April. The pictures rotating above are just a sample of the images I took on the day.
